Ames Rental Association

Support, Education, & Value for Ames Area Landlords

Advocating for Ames Area Landlords Since 2010

The Ames Rental Association was founded in 2010 to give a voice to the many landlords throughout the City of Ames. At the time, a new rental code and increased City enforcement created a need for landlords to come together to voice concerns over the unintended consequences that such enforcement would create. Increasing costs for landlords meant that rental costs would also increase and create less affordable rentals. Since then, the City of Ames and the Ames Rental Association have been working together to create more safe, affordable living in the city for all residents. Along the way we've partnered with our statewide organization, Landlords of Iowa, to work on legislative issues that create more inclusive, non-discriminatory housing for Ames and the State of Iowa. We've done a lot, but there is still much to do. We hope that you'll become involved with our organization to help make a difference in our community!

Our expressed goals as an organization include:

  • Create a uniform voice and networking opportunities for landlords operating within the City of Ames.
  • Build and maintain a working relationship of trust with the City of Ames.
  • Achieve safe and affordable housing for both tenants and landlords.
  • Provide resources and educational opportunities for landlords.

What Do We Do?

We meet quarterly to educate our members. During this time, we invite experts to give members information that they can use to improve their business.

All members receive a discounted price for attending the annual statewide landlord convention

Our group meets regularly which gives our members opportunities to meet other landlords in Ames. This provides a unique atmosphere to network and discuss recent events pertaining to the industry.

state-wide coordination

We have partnered with the Landlords of Iowa to multiply our efforts at the statewide level. We maintain multiple board members with the state organization so that the Ames Rental Association continues to have a voice in statewide issues.

The Landlords of Iowa has a Political Action Committee (PAC) and a lobbyist to help reach legislators in Des Moines with important issues facing landlords.

City advocacy

We have been working to build and maintain a positive relationship of trust with the City of Ames to work in conjunction with them to create safe and affordable housing for tenants and landlords.
